Getting to Victoria

From Vancouver

Take B.C. Ferries from Tsawassen to Swartz Bay. These ferries take cars and leave every 2 hours (sometimes more often). The crossing time is about 1:35. We would highly recommend getting reservations for the ferries; it only costs $15 CAD and it saves you from sitting in your car for 2 hours at the terminal. Trust us when we say it is well worth the value. Note that with reservations, you must arrive at the terminal at least 30mins prior to scheduled departure time.

    From Seattle

From Seattle you have a couple options. You can either take the Victoria Clipper from downtown Seattle, or B.C. Ferries.

    Victoria Clipper
The Victoria Clipper is a passenger-only ferry that runs between downtown Seattle and downtown Victoria. The trip takes about 3 hours. This is a very good option if you are coming by yourself or maybe with one other person. If you come with a larger group, I would suggest B.C. Ferries. The Victoria Clipper runs, in October, one or two trips each day. If you do opt to go this route, try to find a Seattle Entertainment book; there is a great coupon in there for this.

Warning: This part is highly subjective, but I find the entire clipper experience to be rather painful. When you get there, you will find that it reminds you of an airport; you will line up to check-in; check your luggage, wait in line for customs and immigration, and then wait to board. On the trip, there is no room to walk around as its basically an airplane on water. The view is not so hot either. On the way back from Victoria, expect the lineup to get on the boat to take upwards of 30mins. B.C. Ferries on the other hand is a far more relaxed experience.

    B.C. Ferries
Where the Clipper is passenger-only and resembles more of an airport experience, the B.C. Ferries are far more relaxed, spacious, and have many more sailings. Another point to note is that the B.C. Ferries charge a very small amount per person, and a large amount for the car. So if you have a full car going, this route is going to be far cheaper.

You will also find this a much more relaxed experience. Park your car on the ferry, then go upstairs and either sit outside and enjoy the great views, eat some food, play arcade games, read, etc...

Please see the information for visitors from Vancouver for B.C. Ferries information and links.

    Washington State Ferries (Anacortes)
Washington State Ferries run boats from Anacortes to Syndney (near Victoria). I've never taken this myself, so I can't comment on it too much. Note however that there is no food service on this trip and you do have to make reservations at least 24h in advance. Ferry runs about 2-3h in duration and has only one or two sailings daily.
